My Best Friend's Wedding

If you are anything like me, you have dreamt of your ambitions and noted down those priorities and nailed quite a few already! You have attended zillions of weddings and gazed at the beaming bride, glanced at the delicate floral arrangements, noticed the carefully chosen menu, scanned the wedding trousseau- mouth wide open until you realised your mom actually got you here all decked up to silently announce that her daughter is next!

Well, I would only attend weddings initially because I was bribed by the thought of foooooood, till one day, I actually became a bride and promised a feast full of delicacies and a banquet full of good looking men to my girlfriends.

My mind was away in the land of exquisite locations where my wedding would be, the touch of soft silks and cold necklaces gently embracing me and that single moment of absolute peace and racing heartbeats when I would lift my eyelids to know that I am finally married.

As I think of it, all I remember are faces, so many of them, smiling-wishing-teasing-celebrating-winking…all whirring around in a hazy blur. That is the thing about being the bride. You are on autopilot best behaviour mode- where sneaking to have a shot of tequila or setting up a last minute dance performance or chilling out with besties the whole time are the coldest parts of Alaska you will never get to visit.

But, God is kind. He gave us besties! And besties get hitched all the time. It is undoubtedly the carnival of merriment and deeds you missed out on, the places you couldn’t be at your own nuptial and the DIY saree draping experiment you couldn’t be a part of! Bridesmaids get the best of both the worlds, keeping an eye on the whereabouts of the opponent team husband and the home team of the beautiful bride.

Bridesmaids take over everything, they are the best event managers the ladkiwale could get for free and a wee bit closer than siblings to wave a touching teary-eyed farewell. Bridesmaids stand tall with the mother who feels feeble and the one’s to warn the poor guy of the approaching adventures he’s signed up for! They selflessly devote themselves to this wedding and plan every detail of it making the ceremony a success with their firm roles.

If you have been a bridesmaid, you have probably seen your bestie succeed and fail, love and hate, dance and cry, lost and found, mistaken and learnt, mistaken again but grown… and finally on the day as she rises and stands nervously, you know she’s found the one and that you need to let them be…

As you wipe that joyful tear and share a second- long eye contact with her, you realise what a burst of happiness feels like.

Meanwhile, rest assured, eventually she’s going to ring you up with all the tantrum and gossip, girls’ night out plans and manicure mornings!

Till then, amuse yourselves with some eye candies! <3
